Case Study

Steam to Hot Water Conversion - Viessmann

Challenge

Our customer was facing extremely high fuel bills with an inefficient oil steam system. The building had 18 units and $30,000/ year oil bills. It was approximately 80% occupied. The challenge was to save her money without inconveniencing her tenants and disrupting the heat. This is our challenge in all our projects and we have succeeded in delivering the savings and comfort as promised to our customers with high efficiency hydronic heating system installations and properly installed steam heating systems for years.

Approach

Our approach to this particular project was to convert the entire building into a hot water system with the installation of a Viessmann. Each project has it's own individual approach and solution. Absolute Mechanical explores the best options for each project to deliver the most efficient and comfortable system.

Solution

The radiators were modified to hot water radiators and two thin supply and return pipes were installed in each apartment in place of the former steam risers. The boiler was installed first and each riser was connected as it was completed, leaving the building with heat throughout the installation and beginning the savings process. Her new fuel bills were $700 in the cold winter months and her system works beautifully. The tenants windows are now closed during the winter since the building is not being over heated and not wasting energy. Also there have been no complaints about heat for the first time since she's owned the building. This is what we deliver to all our clients - amazing reliable installations!
