Elementary School District
Challenge
Over Christmas Break the heat exchanger (which converts steam to hot water) was ruptured. This caused the classrooms to have no heat.
Approach
Tested the heat exchanger to verify that it was leaking.
Solution
After testing the heat exchanger, we then searched for a replacement tube bundle, but none were available. We shut down the system and installed glycol in the hot water portion. This was to prevent the classroom heating units from freezing in sub zero weather. We removed the tube bundle from the shell. Tested to determine which tubes were leaking. We plugged the leaking tubes. Then we reinstalled the bundle and restarted the system.
