Hydro MPC HVAC wins Product of the Year Award from Engineered Systems
The Grundfos Hydro MPC HVAC pumping system was selected as the 2020 Commercial Comfort Products of the Year Award winner in the Pumps and Flow Controls category by Engineered Systems. The awards program was meticulously judged by an independent panel of consulting/specifying HVACR engineers.
“The system controls are fully integrable into the building management system, and the lifetime alignment guarantee ensures peace of mind for the building owner and operator,” said one of Engineered Systems’ judges. “Its advantages, which include a small footprint, single point of electrical service to multiple pumps, smaller pump impellers, etc., caused me to select it as the winner.”
The Hydro MPC HVAC is the most flexible and intelligent packaged system on the market. Easy to install and more cost-effective than site-built end-suction pumps for commercial heating and cooling systems, the fully-integrated packaged pumping system includes all components: pumps, motors, valves, sensors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), controls, and more. Each system arrives pre-piped, pre-wired and pre-tested. A built-in startup wizard and onboard communications streamline BMS integration and commissioning.
With a wide operating range and smart controls, the system automatically adjusts HVAC systems by delivering the intended Delta T — whether the systems are operating at full or part load conditions — spreading the load across multiple, smaller pumps for maximum efficiency. The system design reduces energy consumption, which provides substantial cost savings in the long term. Advanced controls from the CU352 controller feature efficiency-based sequencing that allows the system to exceed ASHRAE 90.1 energy guidelines.
The Hydro MPC HVAC utilizes the Grundfos CR, a vertical inline multistage pump designed to minimize vibration. The CR pump uses lightweight, laser-welded impellers versus heavy, high mass cast bronze impellers.
“Traditionally, the Hydro MPC had been used in pressure-boosting applications,” said Greg Bretz, vice president of Grundfos Commercial Buildings. “We looked at the HVAC market and saw the opportunity to solve contractor and engineering challenges by moving to packaged systems for HVAC as well; similar to the evolution that both factory packaged chillers and boilers went through decades ago.”
Grundfos launched an additional variation of the Hydro MPC with CME pumps at AHR Expo 2020. Later this year, the company plans to launch more pump configuration options.
