Quilt Expands Product Line with Industry's Most Efficient 3-Zone Heat Pump
Quilt announced the launch of its 3-zone outdoor unit — the most efficient 3-zone ductless heat pump on the market. With a SEER2 rating of 25.3 and HSPF2 (Region IV) rating of 12, the new system delivers 20% greater efficiency than the average 3-zone heat pump while enabling more cost-competitive installations for three-, five-, and six-room homes.
The 3-zone outdoor unit represents Quilt's first hardware expansion since its May 2024 product launch and directly addresses installer feedback requesting expanded SKUs to compete on more job types. The system maintains Quilt's signature smart technology — including occupancy detection, room-by-room control, and over-the-air updates — while opening up whole-home solutions that previously required multiple outdoor units.
“Our partners have been clear about what they need: better economics for larger installs, reduced outdoor footprint for homeowners, and the same installation simplicity they get with our 2-zone system,” said Mark Schmidt, Chief Revenue Officer at Quilt. “The 3-zone delivers on all three while maintaining the industry-leading efficiency and intelligent features that make Quilt unique. This isn’t just adding capacity — it’s expanding what’s possible with ductless heat pumps. At Quilt, partner feedback goes straight into product decisions, and we move fast without ever compromising efficiency, intelligence, or install simplicity — something legacy approaches simply aren’t built to do.”
Industry-Leading Performance Meets Expanded Flexibility
The 3-zone outdoor unit sets new efficiency standards with ratings that exceed Energy Star Most Efficient and Cold Climate criteria. The system maintains 100% heating capacity down to -5°F and 88% capacity at -13°F, addressing one of the most persistent concerns about heat pump performance in colder regions.
At 52 dBA, the unit operates quieter than a normal conversation — critical for meeting strict urban noise ordinances — while maintaining the matte black architectural design that has become a Quilt signature. The compact footprint (36 9/16" x 14 9/16" x 30 7/16") reduces outdoor space requirements compared to multiple 2-zone units.
"We built the 3-zone with the same obsessive attention to efficiency that went into our original 2-zone system," said Matthew Knoll, Quilt's co-founder and CTO. "Every component was optimized to deliver maximum performance without compromise. This system proves you don't have to sacrifice efficiency to gain capacity — you can have both through intelligent engineering."
Transforming Installation Economics
The 3-zone outdoor unit changes the economics of larger ductless installations. Installers can now handle three-room projects with one outdoor unit, or five- and six-room installations with just two outdoor units — delivering competitive pricing while maintaining Quilt's premium margins and reducing the outdoor footprint homeowners must accommodate.
Pre-charged with 2,400g of R-32 refrigerant — good for all lineset lengths with no additional charging required — the system simplifies installation while using a refrigerant with one-third the global warming potential of conventional R-410A. Quilt's dedicated technical support line, staffed by in-house expert technicians, provides installers with direct access to product specialists throughout installation and service.
The system includes the same intelligent features that have driven Quilt's industry-leading 4.8 out of 5 customer satisfaction score: Auto-Away functionality that automatically saves energy in unoccupied rooms, comprehensive energy usage tracking down to the hour, and continuous over-the-air updates that deliver new features and performance improvements long after installation.
Smart Technology That Improves Over Time
Like all Quilt systems, the 3-zone outdoor unit leverages the processing power of a smartphone to optimize performance in real-time. Recent updates delivered to existing Quilt systems have included increased heating and cooling capacity, enhanced occupancy detection algorithms, and expanded energy reporting — all without service visits or hardware changes.
The 3-zone maintains compatibility with Quilt's customizable indoor units, which measure just 7 ⅞ inches tall and feature white oak or paintable and wallpaperable white covers that integrate seamlessly into any home aesthetic. Homeowners control their entire system through the intuitive Quilt Dial or mobile app, with room-by-room precision that eliminates the temperature battles common in multi-zone homes.
Immediate Availability Through Certified Partner Network
The 3-zone outdoor unit is available now through Quilt's network of over 65 Certified Partners across 17 U.S. states and six Canadian provinces, with first shipments arriving in early February 2026. The system qualifies for all available federal, state, and utility rebates thanks to its industry-leading efficiency ratings and Energy Star Most Efficient designation.
"We've seen incredible demand from our partners since announcing this product internally," said Schmidt. "They understand that Quilt's combination of efficiency, intelligence, and design opens up opportunities that traditional mini-splits simply can't match. The 3-zone gives them another tool to serve more customers while maintaining the differentiation that drives their business."
Quilt maintains a 10-12 year warranty on all systems, reflecting the company's confidence in long-term reliability and performance. With the 3-zone outdoor unit, Quilt is proving that expanding product lines doesn't mean compromising — it means bringing the future of home comfort to more homes, more affordably.
