Women in Energy held a special event on August 14 at a New York City landmark. The beautiful, historic building served as the perfect backdrop for an inspiring evening of education and networking.
Founded in 1785, the General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmen supports New York City's oldest technical school and second oldest library. After the American Revolution, skilled tradesmen formed the General Society to rebuild the city. Today, this 233-year-old organization continues to serve and improve the quality of life of the people of the City of New York through its educational, philanthropic, and cultural programs.
Erin Holohan Haskell, Vice President of Women in Energy, President of HeatingHelp.com, and General Society member, said, “This was a fitting location for the evening’s event, as Women in Energy’s mission is to connect and empower women in our industry through education and networking opportunities.”
Guest speaker Judaline Cassidy, tradeswoman and Founder/Director of Tools and Tiaras, shared her experience forging a path for women in the plumbing industry. When she tried to join the local plumbers union in 1994, she was told to “go home and do the dishes.” She persisted and later became the first woman elected on the Examining Board of Plumbers Local Union No. One. Judaline also talked about how she is helping ambitious and determined women and girls by introducing them to the construction field through monthly workshops and a summer camp.
After the program, attendees gathered for networking, food, and drinks. “Attendees kept telling me how much they enjoyed the evening,” said Judy Garber, Executive Director of Women in Energy. “They were thrilled with the program and the opportunity to get to know one another afterwards. This event was a huge success.”
Women in Energy would like to thank the following event sponsors: The New York Oil Heating Association, The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen, The Fuel Merchants Association of New Jersey, and Primedia.
